辽上京遗址位于内蒙古自治区巴林左旗林东镇东南。城址平面略呈“日”字形，由北部的皇城和南部的汉城组成，总面积约5平方公里。皇城城墙保存较好，平面呈不规则方形，现存东、西和北3座门址，南门已遭破坏。宫城位于皇城的中北部。根据考古钻探可知，皇城中部偏东，有一条南北向的街道，纵贯皇城南墙与宫城，是皇城南部的重要道路之一，编号为一号街道遗址。
