1978年5月，在距武汉市西北约155公里的随州市擂鼓墩，一座战国早期的大墓被意外发现，考古学家对它进行了抢救性发掘，共发现15000余件文物，其中乐器9种共125件，包括了至今为止出土数量最多、音域最广、保存最完好的编钟，这就是曾侯乙墓。它是一座名副其实的艺术博物馆和音乐厅，也为我们打开了通往曾国之门。
